Grenfell Tower Enquiry
It's a year since the Grenfell Tower fire and the Inquiry has commenced in Holborn, London. Expert witnesses have started to present their evidence.
On June 4th it was disclosed that the victims had in excess of thirty minutes to flee the high-rise before it, and the communal stairs, filled with toxic fumes, but were told to stay in their homes by fire officers.
As background to the Inquiry the day after the Grenfell fire Theresa May announced the public inquiry and appointed Sir Martin Moore-Bick as the Chair Person.
Having retired at the age of 71, Sir Martin was an appeal judge subsequent to his career as a Commercial and Shipping lawyer. He attended Cambridge and was called to the Bar in 1969.
There was an element of controversy regarding an earlier decision he presided over whereby he allowed Westminster City Council to re-home a single mother 50 miles away. The decision was overruled on appeal.
The full outcome of the Inquiry is some way away, yet.
