Charity Property

Whether it is land and buildings, investments or specific assets such as works of art or antiques, charities often find that they are involved in some sort of property transaction at one time or another. Whilst many will only ever deal with property in the sense that they need to operate from somewhere, others find that property as an investment is necessary.

Some charities involve designated land or property which is often closely connected to the charitable purpose of the charity such as village hall trusts or buildings given over to the care of the sick or poor. How do you deal with this type of property without offending the objects of the charity? Is it possible to sell a building that has been given to a particular charitable cause without bringing the charity to an end? Is this the best course of action?

For help with the answers to these and any other questions you have about charity property, contact our Charity Team for more information.
